Microsoft is developing a new system that can help colour blind gamers – Times of India

Features like colour-coded level design, interactive objects and HUD elements are all common features in gaming to help colour blind gamers. However, colour blindness could be a major challenge for gamers, depending on its severity. However, Microsoft may have found a solution to help colour-blind gamers by making these features more apparent.
Earlier, it depended solely on the game developers to include and implement these specific colour blindness features. This means that some of the games that have been released to date offer limited or no support for these features at all. According to a new report by GameRant, the latest system patented by Microsoft will use dedicated software to imbibe these accessibility features. The new system is also expected to work across the board in all or most games that are available on the market.
The report suggests that the patent describes a specialised colour correction tech that is supposed to compensate for colour blindness. This technology will apply a colour transformation layer during the post-processing stage to create an apt altered image. As per the theory, this new technology will allow Xbox to offer fixes for almost all types of colour blindness in all games. This colour correction system will make the games playable for virtually all colour blind players even if the developers of the game don’t include these features.
As Xbox gets more accessibility options regularly, it isn’t very surprising for Microsoft to work on this comprehensive colour-correction filter. The company submitted the new colour correction patent along with the split-screen multiplayer patent for Xbox a while ago. However, the patent was recently made widely accessible to the public.
The report also suggests that Microsoft is working on optimising the Xbox Series X chipset, which is likely to result in smaller and slimmer console versions in the future.
In 2018, Microsoft introduced its Xbox Adaptive Controller which was one of the most adaptive and customisable gaming devices available on the market. The device was designed to allow most disabled gamers to optimise their playing experience with ease and to remove multiple accessibility barriers.
